We got a frantic call late last night from Dan, our soon-to-be neighbor. He was checking his permit documents on the city website and noticed that his house would not be pushed back 15 feet in order to save our tree in the front. He checked our permit plans and although it called for the house to be pushed back 20 feet, it also says the front trees would be removed. He said he drove by our lots that evening and saw that they had taken down some of the larger trees on the property but not the ones out front. He also saw wooden forms stacked in front of our lot. That means they'll be pouring the foundation soon.
Duc checked our permits online and it indeed called for the removal of the front trees. He sent a flurry of emails to our sales rep asking if they had sent out the wrong permit. If the builders did, it would mean another round of permit purgatory at the City offices.
This morning, Duc went out to the lot and talked to our builder, Monty. Monty assured Duc that the trees would be saved. Our sales rep emailed back and said he's contacting the VPs of Sales and Construction to make sure our trees stay intact. That's a relief.
They have started about 7 houses now, including ours. After they put in the plumbing and pour the foundation, we'll have a meeting with Monty about the construction of our house. We're really excited now that things are finally starting.
