Week 21 - more things done, many more to do and Walk through

A lot has happened this week. It has been five months since they laid the first forms. Those slow progress early days have given way to a lightning fast final week. We're going down the home stretch and the builder is frantically finishing up the last details.

Early in the week they installed all the hardware in the house. This includes the door handles, bathroom rods and towel holders, etc. Brinks came in and installed the surround sound speakers and cable and phone jacks. The also started grading the yard to prep it for landscaping. Today, they installed the framed mirrors in the master and hall baths. They also finished touch-up painting. There was a city inspector at the house today and our house passed the Energy Certified inspection.

We had a walk through this afternoon and it was a little chaotic. Usually walk throughs occur when the builders are finished with the house and want you to make sure everything is ok. Our walk through in our current house with David Weekley occurred one week before closing. Our punch list included about 5 items and a few places for touch-up paint. This is 4 days before closing, and the house is no where near done! That punch list as long and I'm glad they had a crew going around the house with touch-up paint because there would have been more blue tape than there already is.

There are still some major projects left to do. The biggest is the landscaping. They need to add dirt, grass, trees, plants, bushes, etc. And put up the fencing around our 50x197-foot yard. Oh, and a sprinkler system! Inside the house, we still need a front door, a gas cooktop, shower door, french doors in the study, blinds, lights in the master bath and a broken window replaced.

Josh has been telling me his great idea: instead of buying all new stuff, we should move our current furniture to the new house! That's a great idea, Josh! We're not planning to buy too many new things, just a few pieces we need to make a room more complete.

We can't believe this building process is almost done. We close on Friday afternoon. Hopefully we'll be homeowners again by the time the kids go Trick-or-Treating.
