San Antonio stay-cation

It's been a couple of years since we'd taken a summer vacation. We didn't go anywhere as a family last year because of the high gas prices and because Jacob was still an infant. This year we've been enjoying our new house and the older kids have been going to camps and swim lessons so we didn't have a chance to plan a vacation. We finally have some free time a few weeks before school starts so we decided to make some last-minute weekend trips. For three weekends in August, we plan to goto San Antonio, Lost Pines Resort in Bastrop and goto Bay City for my parents' 40th anniversary.

The first weekend of August, we spent 2 days in San Antonio. We took the kids to Fiesta Texas and then stayed at a hotel on the Riverwalk. The kids loved the amusement park, especially the water park. Afterwards, we settled into our hotel room and met up with Sonny, a good friend from high school. We did the touristy thing and ate on the Riverwalk. The next day, we went to see the Alamo. Josh had read and heard about the Alamo and was anxious to see it in person. I don't think he understood the significance of the place. He enjoyed climbing on the cannons and looking at the different weapons they used during the battle.

San Antonio is a great place to visit and I hope we'll get a chance to return soon.
