On March 25, there was a huge hail storm in our area. The weather forecast said there would be a possibility of strong thunderstorms but no one really expected it to be so forceful.
We were eating dinner when it started raining. Then we heard pelting. It started getting louder and then sounded like someone was throwing rocks at our house. We ran to the front door and saw huge rocks of ice on the ground.
This was the scene in our front yard. The wind blew leaves off the trees. The yard smelled like freshly cut trees.
Here's Duc's car. Even though it was relatively protected by our house and the neighbor's house, the storm caused extensive damage to the body and trim of the car. The insurance company totaled it.
Josh picked up one of the larger pieces of hail that dropped near the front porch. It was about the size of a golf ball. I'm sure there were bigger pieces but we weren't going to search for it during the storm.
This was our first time to deal with a major storm and the damage it causes. With a storm this big, the first thing we thought about was the roof. We haven't had someone look at it but we can already see some damage on it. We don't want to replace a 4-month old roof but we also want to make sure the house is safe to live in. Still, the damage could have been worse and we're thankful no one was hurt.
